Origin and Name Change:
NASU, currently based in Solo, Indonesia (a city known for its comfortable living), began in 2019 under a much more challenging name: NAZTDJHISZTZSUTDJCI. This name, while intended to convey “Najis Suci” (Holy Unclean), proved difficult to remember or pronounce. In mid-2021, I decided to shorten and simplify it to the current, more accessible NASU.
Musical Style:
My music falls under the genre of harsh noise. I utilize distortion and fuzz guitar effects to create a heavy and intense soundscape. Additionally, I incorporate data sampling through a Korg Kaos Pad to further manipulate and layer the sound.
Releases:
NASU has a history of releases on both CD and cassette formats. In 2021, Potong Jari Records released a compilation titled “HAMBA DISTORSI” vol 1 (Tangerang – Solo) featuring NASU’s work. Later, in 2022, Basement Corner Emissions from Portland, Oregon, released a split release showcasing NASU alongside the project Crepuscular Entities. The same year also saw two cassette releases from international labels: Drama Recorder (Spain) and mima kass (Sweden) Additionally, NASU has digital releases available on the Bandcamp platform, and most recently in 2024, released a split album with P.O.V Japan Harsh Noise via Creston Club.
Community Involvement:
NASU is also part of the D.I.Y. solo collective known as BENGAWAN NOISE SYNDICATE. Formed in 2012/2013, this collective holds regular monthly events that often feature international noise artists alongside local talent. The noise scene in Solo also boasts an annual event, SOLO HARSH FEST, which celebrates friendships within the city and beyond.
